Day 21: September 27

It was bittersweet leaving the comfortable palace that we have lived in (by the generosity of Dan & Ruth) for the past week. I suppose the only way to treat our pain is through excessive drink. Perhaps that is why Walla Walla, the wine country of Washington, is our next destination!
Paul and I attempted to drink all of the wine at:

*Bergevin Lane Vineyards - A great Viognier that we can imagine drinking with Paul's Aloo Gobi and Saag

*Zerba Cellars (not to be confused with zebra - the striped animal) - This is the vineyard where we realized that Washington cabernets are bad. They taste overwhelmingly like green pepper.

*L'Ecole No 41 - This is a wine that we had enjoyed before coming to region so we were excited about visiting the vineyard. In this old schoolhouse turned winery we learned that Merlots and Syrahs are the powerhouses of this region. Walla Walla merlots are not at all the stereotypically boring wines.

*Reininger Winery - I have no recollection of the wines that we drank; neither good nor bad. However, we did have a great time talking with the local student who was pouring the wines.

*Preston something or other - pure swill - not to be confused with any sort of digestable wine

*Ash Hollow Winery - More white wines that you can imagine drinking with great Indian or Thai food.

Dinner at the worst little Thai restaurant (it came so highly recommended too!) and a drive up to Lewis & Clark Trail State Park to camp for the night - it was officially after their season ended so camping cost no money. This is important so that we could justify buying more and more bottles of wine...
